Soap carvings by Mrs. Perkins' 6th grade at Hommell Elementary
School in Everman, Texas (Our thanks for the picture)This is your chance to start your child (no matter what age) in
carving. Carving in soap is safe and clean.
Wood is not the most suitable carving medium for children, and
its not the easiest for adults. Ivory soap provides a great
way to
learn and teach basic carving techniques. The book provided with this kit,
Carving in Soap, by Howard Suzuki starts with directions for making safe
and simple wooden carving tools, basic soap-carving techniques are shown
with step-by-step color photographs. The projects range from a simple heart
to a more complex turtle. Art and science are integrated into the instructions
and combined to produce a super learning experience for children of all ages.
The kit comes book, 2 bars of ivory soap and 3 wooden tools. You just supply
the kid.
4 different carving projects from soap are covered in the 47 page book.
If you don't like the results, place kid and unwanted
soap carving in bath tub.
HINT: Ivory soap gets rid of excess bubbles in tub. Good to remember if you
get too much bubble bath in tub. (not a carving hint but good to know)
