Mac began carving when he was living on an island in the South Pacific and continued his love of woodcarving when he returned to his native East Tennessee some 16 years ago.  He and his wife bought Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers Supply from Jim Wilsford and, along with selling carving supplies, started Smoky Mountain School of Woodcarving in Townsend, TN at Nawger Nob.

Mac has been teaching beginner and advanced classes for over 12 years in Townsend and at various locations including the University of Tennessee, John C.  Campbell  Folk School, the annual Woodcarving School in Montgomery.  Mac also provides sharpening seminars throughout the southern states.
